The village of Azoia is the westernmost settlement on the European continent, right on the edge of the Atlantic ocean and next to the famous Cabo da Roca. The nearest church dates back to the 16th century in a nearby town, and in the beginning of the 1990s, the population decided to build a church to serve their village.

It was a project that involved contributions from various parties, and led to the construction of this Church-Chapel, which was iaugurated by Cardinal Patriarch Dom Antonio Ribeiro, and consecrated to Our Lady of Health (Nossa Senhora de Saude). It later received a very honorable 1st prize at the International Forum for Religion, Art and Architecture (IFRAA) in Chicago in 1992 for Excellence in Design.
